Chatbase alternatives, by what you need

Chatbase is one of the fastest ways to put a document-trained support agent on a website, and DDR's review scores it 7.00, a Strong Performer. If you're comparing it against other options before choosing, or you already use it and want to know what else exists, the useful question is not "what's better than Chatbase" but "what do I need it to do."

Short answer: for the fastest setup at the lowest price, Chatbase and Chatling; for pricing that doesn't meter every message, Botpress or Dify; for a full help desk with human handoff, Tidio or eesel AI; for voice and phone, Voiceflow; for open source and self-hosting, Dify or Botpress; for the widest integrations, MindStudio; and if the job is automating work rather than answering customers, Lindy, Gumloop, or ManyChat.

Each section below takes one of those needs, gives the answer, and shows the options with a fact verified against the vendor's own pricing page on September 20, 2026. Where DDR has published a full review, the DDR Score appears as context. Chatbase itself is listed wherever it is a fair answer; this page is not an argument against it.

These scores are a starting point, not a verdict. Shortlist the two products that best fit the job you need done, Chatbase included if it fits, then test each on a real conversation before the trial ends.

Fastest path to a working support bot

Short answer: Chatbase and Chatling are the two quickest. Point either at a website or a folder of documents and a working agent is live in minutes; the difference is price and what happens as usage grows.

ChatbaseDDR 7.00

The reference point for this page. Document-trained agent, live in minutes, 7-day trial on paid plans. Where it costs more than the alternatives is the credit meter and the $99/mo branding removal.

Free (50 credits/mo, agents deleted after 14 days idle), Hobby $40 (700 credits), Standard $150 (4,000), Pro $500 (15,000). Verified on chatbase.co/pricing, Sept 20, 2026.

ChatlingNot yet scored

The same job at a lower entry price, deployable to web and WhatsApp with no code.

Free (100 AI credits/mo), Basic $15/mo (2,000 credits), Pro $35/mo (5,500). Branding removal $35/mo. Verified on chatling.ai/pricing, Sept 20, 2026.

Predictable pricing that doesn't meter every message

Short answer: Dify and Botpress. Chatbase and Chatling both bill in message credits, which is fine at low volume and hard to forecast at scale. These two price by capability and seats instead.

BotpressDDR 8.15

Tiers are priced by capability, seats are unlimited on every plan including Free, and every agent runs in its own isolated runtime.

Free (1 published agent), Plus $89/mo with unlimited published agents. Per DDR review, verified Sept 2026.

DifyDDR 8.17

Self-host the free Community Edition and there is no vendor meter at all; you pay your own infrastructure and model API costs. The Cloud tier is a fixed monthly price.

Community Edition free and self-hosted with no license fee; Cloud from about $49/mo. Per DDR review, verified Sept 2026.

A full help desk with human handoff

Short answer: Tidio if you want the desk and the AI agent in one product; eesel AI if you already run Zendesk, Intercom, or Freshdesk and want the AI inside it. Chatbase's help desk and handoff arrive at the $150 Standard tier.

TidioNot yet scored

Live chat, ticketing, and the Lyro AI agent in one desk, with human handoff on every plan.

Free plan (50 human conversations/mo, 50 Lyro AI conversations lifetime); Starter $24.17/mo annual; Lyro AI add-on from $32.50/mo for 50 AI conversations. Verified on tidio.com/pricing, Sept 20, 2026.

eesel AINot yet scored

Adds the AI agent to the help desk you already use and trains on past tickets. Priced for support operations, not solo builders.

Team $299/mo ($239 annual), Business $799/mo ($639 annual). 7-day trial. Verified on docs.eesel.ai, Sept 20, 2026.

ChatbaseDDR 7.00

Native help desk, voice, telephony, and advanced integrations (Zendesk, Stripe, and more) from the Standard tier up.

Standard $150/mo (4,000 credits, 3 members). Verified on chatbase.co/pricing, Sept 20, 2026.

Voice and phone agents, not just chat

Short answer: Voiceflow designs chat, voice, and phone agents from one canvas; Chatbase adds voice and telephony at the Standard tier.

VoiceflowDDR 7.17

Chat, voice, and telephony agents built on one canvas, with a visual builder a support team can edit. Paid pricing is not published, so ask before committing.

Free tier available; paid pricing demo-gated. 8 confirmed native integrations. Per DDR review, verified Sept 2026.

ChatbaseDDR 7.00

Voice and telephony included from the Standard tier, with concurrent-call limits rising by plan.

Standard $150/mo: voice and telephony, 10 concurrent calls; Pro $500/mo: 20. Verified on chatbase.co/pricing, Sept 20, 2026.

Open source, self-hosting, or full data control

Short answer: Dify and Botpress are the two open-source options with self-hosting. Chatbase is closed-source; its Enterprise tier offers zero data retention and HIPAA eligibility for teams whose concern is data handling rather than licensing.

DifyDDR 8.17

Source published on GitHub under Dify's own license (Apache 2.0 plus two conditions: no multi-tenant commercial hosting without permission, and the branding stays). The self-hosted Community Edition is free and full-featured; the DDR Category Leader at 8.17.

langgenius/dify: 156,000+ stars, active as of Sept 20, 2026. Community Edition self-hosted with no license fee. Per DDR review and the repository.

BotpressDDR 8.15

Platform source published on GitHub under the MIT license; self-hosting available alongside the managed cloud.

botpress/botpress: MIT license, 14,900+ stars, active as of Sept 20, 2026. Verified on GitHub.

ChatbaseDDR 7.00

Not open source. Enterprise tier adds zero data retention, HIPAA eligibility, SSO, and audit logs.

Enterprise: contact sales. Verified on chatbase.co/pricing, Sept 20, 2026.

Reaching tools beyond a chat widget

Short answer: MindStudio has the largest confirmed integration library in the category by a wide margin; Botpress and Gumloop are next. Chatbase's list is solid for support tools (Zendesk, Salesforce, HubSpot, Shopify, Slack, WhatsApp) but is widget-first.

MindStudioDDR 7.78

1,000+ confirmed integrations, a non-technical builder, and self-serve learning through MindStudio University.

Free tier; Individual $20/mo ($16 billed yearly). Per DDR review, verified Sept 2026.

GumloopDDR 6.56

AI-native workflow automation with branching, loops, and batch processing across 125+ integrations.

Pro $37/mo, 14-day trial, no permanent free tier. Per DDR review, verified Sept 2026.

A different job: automating work rather than answering customers

Short answer: if the goal is automating tasks, inboxes, or marketing conversations rather than answering customer questions, Chatbase is the wrong category, and so are most products above. These are the ones built for that.

LindyDDR 6.71

A Slack-native assistant for inbox, calendar, and everyday task automation.

Plus $29.99/mo, 7-day trial, no free tier. Per DDR review, verified Sept 2026.

GumloopDDR 6.56

Visual workflow automation for teams already comfortable with tools like Zapier or Make.

Pro $37/mo. Per DDR review, verified Sept 2026.

ManyChatNot yet scored

The default for Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp marketing automation. Its contact-based pricing could not be verified against a vendor page on Sept 20, 2026, so no figures are shown.

Pricing not verified; check manychat.com/pricing directly.

Two products on this page have a free tier that does not delete your work: Botpress (Free plan, 1 published agent, unlimited seats) and Dify (Community Edition, self-hosted, no license fee; the cloud Sandbox is also free with a one-time credit allowance). Chatling's free plan gives 100 AI credits a month, twice Chatbase's 50, and does not delete idle bots. Tidio's free plan is generous for human chat but caps the AI agent at 50 conversations for the life of the account, so it is a trial in practice. MindStudio has a free tier for building; Voiceflow's free tier exists but its paid pricing is not published. Two frequently suggested alternatives, Botsonic and ManyChat, are not listed here because their pricing could not be verified against a vendor page on September 20, 2026.

The Insider's Take

The search data for this term is unusual: interest in Chatbase itself has been falling for a year while searches for alternatives have grown more than twenty-fold. Some of that is churn over the credit meter and the branding fee, which the review data documents. Some of it is simply that Chatbase became the name people know, and the name people know is the one they compare everything else against.
