If you're comparing it against other options before choosing, or you use it and want to know what else exists, the useful question is what you need the agent to do, and this month one more thing: Botpress repriced in September 2026 to conversation-based billing, with Plus rising to $150 a month billed annually and seats capped at three below Team, so any comparison you did earlier in the year used stale numbers.
Short answer: for chat volume at a lower published price, Typebot or Chatbase; for open source and self-hosting, Botpress itself is one of the best answers, alongside Dify and Rasa; for a team without engineers, MindStudio, Chatbase, or Typebot; for voice and phone, Voiceflow; for a code-first framework, Rasa or self-hosted Dify; for customer-facing agents that must stay up under load, stay with Botpress; and if the job is automating work rather than answering customers, Gumloop or Lindy.

Open source or self-hosting
Short answer: this is a reason to stay with Botpress, not leave it. Botpress publishes its platform under the MIT license and supports self-hosting. If you want alternatives on the same footing, Dify and Rasa are open source; Typebot is source-available.

Botpress's own free tier is real but small since the September 2026 repricing: 25 conversations a month, 3 seats, 3 agents, no overages. Among the alternatives, Typebot's free plan (200 chats a month, unlimited typebots) and Chatbase's (50 credits a month, agents deleted after 14 days idle) are for building and testing; MindStudio's free tier (1 agent, 1,000 runs) is the same. The free options with no ceiling are the self-hosted ones: Botpress itself under MIT, Dify's Community Edition, Rasa Open Source, and Typebot self-hosted under its source-available license.
